• This project is a media art piece inspired by the city of Dubai. Dubai is home to the tallest building in the world, the Burj Khalifa. As one of the seven emirates of the United Arab Emirates, it is a city that boasts a scale and visual impact difficult to find anywhere else. The artwork uses a sandstorm, a symbol representing Dubai, as its central theme. The sandstorm is depicted as a divine entity descended from mythology, sweeping across the land and engulfing the world. It metaphorically reflects the symbolic significance Dubai holds in the 21st century, conveying grandeur and human desire in a subtle, allegorical way. The motif of wind is expressed through a woman’s movement; her modern dance acts as a visual metaphor, as if the sandstorm is spreading across the space. This piece does not tell a linear story with a clear beginning, middle, and end. Instead, it immerses the viewer solely in the power of the imagery itself. Just by gazing, viewers will feel overwhelmed and experience the tumultuous emotions of worry, like a swirling sandstorm.
